Harley, you should be proud…

Posted by: Jarod at 5:19 pm, April 8th, 2009

… I’ve gone the way of an egotistical fashion loving monkey. Monkey?

Harley, you should be proud.

Yes, my singlespeed has a red chain now. And yes, I love it.

The chain keeps slipping on the back cog when I put stacks of power through the cranks. So I’m going to find myself a 3/32 half link and go a bit shorter.

Either that or I might have to go back to the era of the ickky gold half link chain. I’m so vain!

    I don’t think I’m egotistical fashion loving, but I am a Monkey…

Okay.. maybe I’m missing something here with the single speed – I just don’t get it. I can understand it on a velodrome, but like this I’m not so sure…Plus how have you go the rest of it set up? For just pure time trail speed? Confuzed this monkey is…

for me, the singlespeed thing is just all about simplicity. that and the insane part of me kinda enjoys the fact that on a singlespeed you’re in the wrong gear for the terrain most of the time. be it spinning the cranks too fast on down hills or grinding up hills, it’s certainly making me fitter, quicker.

oh oh. and it’s not setup for pure trail speed. my mtb singlespeed is only a few minutes an hour slower than when it was geared, yet it’s a whole bunch mroe fun!

as for another long ride…. yep. we should totally do centennial park at some point.
