My savvycat stats have EXPLODED since yesterday, due to a post on ikea hacker about Train’s cat run.

Then today it made lifehacker, so the hits are still coming in. I’m very chuffed, I’m reaching a whole audience of people I don’t know.
The internet is so cool.
Yep, more buildingness has taken place. And the new frame has a name… Whitey!

Going to keep rebuilding it as it was for Dirtworks. But wheelset, crankset, brakes, seatpost & saddle are all on the table for upgrades during Winter.
Jarod and I went down to the Eveleigh Farmer’s Markets on Saturday, and hung around for the Finders Keepers Markets. Just as we were finishing up, I saw a dog alongside his toy raccoon. So cute.

We also picked up a chocolate brownie and a sticky date pudding (with caramel sauce!) from the Fare Gourmet stall. Soooo good. We only started on the sticky date pudding last night (although it probably should have taken us longer to get through the choc brownie) but I can’t wait for dessert tonight to have more.
They’ll be at the farmers markets next weekend too. I might just have to ride down…
Nom nom nom.
Last night Liz and I were watching old reruns of The Chaser’s CNNNN and were super surprised to see that the house we now live in was in the background of one of the shots.

In 2003, Liz used to watch CNNNN religiously while living in Queensland and attending High School. I watched it in downtown Bankstown while chilling with my homies. 6 years later we’re together, and living in a place that’s in the background of something we both enjoyed watching. I mean, what the freaking hell are the chances of that?!?!
Truly random++.
So, who didn’t check if she would be able to connect to her work’s remote desktop thingy through Ubuntu?
Yep, that’d be me.

This afternoon I wiped Ubuntu, reinstalled Win XP and then dual booted Ubuntu (for when I don’t need work stuff). Oh, the pain of setting up Windows from scratch. What’s that? You don’t know what my network drivers are? Well, that’s okay I guess. I’ll point you in the right direction. What? You don’t know my display drivers either? Well, I guess I can find those. Sigh.
Ubuntu did have a few downsides though, finding all the right plugins to play videos, view some images and random other things. That got a little annoying, but it still kicked Window’s ass when it came to installation and user interface.
Booyah!

Headset

Dropouts.

Seatpost’y area.

1598/1599gram’ish. Happy.

Okay. With the demise of my Giant Iguana frame, I’ve been looking on eBay for a cheap xtc or similar frame. Nothing came up until I found what was hilariously the perfect bike for me.
It’s a …
*pause for dramatic effect*
… 17″ 2003 Giant Iguana frame. The exact same model and size as the frame I found oh so comfortable for so many years on my now broken single speed.
Photos of it as it was when I picked it up …

and about 20 minutes later ….

I’m a happy boy, as the frame itself is in good nick. As such, it’s gone off to be glass bead blasted and powder coated. Hopefully I’ll see it again before the end of next week.
Just a small update on my Giant Iguana Single Speed. It’s all broked.
Basically, a few weeks before Dirtworks, the bottom bracket started making a clicking sound. Turns out that was one side of the bottom bracket shell had enlarged, so the thread wasn’t threading in. This can pretty much be attributed to me running the chain too tight with no chain tensioner. My bad, at least I’ve learnt from it.
My LBS put in a ’self tightening bottom bracket in’, which fixed the problem for a while, but then the night before Dirtworks it came back. Rode Dirtworks, then haven’t touched the bike since.

I recently won a frame off ebay which most of the partswill get slapped onto. And the sexy matte black frame you see in previous posts will polished up and hung on the wall.
Long and short of it, this frame/bike is dead. But it shall be reborn soon.
Hey you there! Did you not hear the news that savvycat.net is giving away 3 nut and bee prints? Well, they are!
Hot on the heels of the Rubens Tube I posted back in February… we have… sugar on paper with a speaker underneath!
And if you’re after addition holy shit! type moments, scroll through the comments on the that video’s youtube page. By golly there’s some corkers in there.
So all I post about is Train, savvycat and dinosaurs. But this post is about Ubuntu. Kinda.
This morning I smooshed the Windows XP partition (I refused to upgrade to Vista) and installed Ubuntu 9.04. The last time I had a go at linux was Red Hat years ago, and that wasn’t any fun. For the past 6 months or so we’ve been testing the Ubuntu waters – we’ve had it installed on my crappy Dell laptop for some time, and it seemed okay.
We helped Jarod’s parents purchase new PCs a couple of weekends ago, and installed Ubuntu for them. They’ve been running on Ubuntu only for a week now – and they’re doing fine. We haven’t even had one ‘tech support’ call relating to it. And that’s a HUGE testament to how user friendly Ubuntu is – I can say it’s great and all, but if Jarod’s parents can use it with ease, that says something.
I’m swapping Photoshop for GIMP for the time being, but I’m sure it wont be long before I use WINE to run it though. The internet works as it should. So, everything is fine.
Jarod still has a half partition between Windows Vista and Ubuntu because his TV Tuner has issues with Ubuntu, and sometimes we like to watch TV. But yeah. Ubuntu and stuff.
Jarod didn’t realise I was smooshing XP completely and is a little freaked out, but I’ve got all my stuff on another drive so it’s fiiiiiiiiiiine. I’ll let you know in a week what I’m missing.
