We all know how much everyone wants Train on their desktops. So think of this as an early Christmas present.
And a special one for your iphoners – a close up.

It was extremely fun to catch up with long lost SPB’ers. I think it’s fairly safe to say everyone had a brilliant night. Well, Liz and I certainly did.
The simple things are what made the night so memorable. The Rick Rollin‘ fortune cookies, handmade party bags, fun loving company and of course… crayons and butchers paper!

Kate and Wing, we wish you many years of happiness together and sincerely hope you framed the butchers paper Michelle, Liz, Tim and I worked on. It’ll be worth mega-bucks one day.
I’ve been having headaches and eye aches and that kinda thing, so I ended up at the optometrist today to see if it was my eyes. ‘Cos, y’know. That’d make sense.
I went through all the questions and tests and at the end of it the optometrist said to me “your eyes are trying too hard”. I don’t think she intended that to sound funny, but I giggled. Apparently my long distance vision is awesome, but close up I need a little help so my eye muscles aren’t working so hard. Or something.
So. After being told my eyes are try hards, I got to pick out some glasses. With a very helpful lady asking me what kind of glasses I liked. And I was all ‘well, I don’t know. I’ve not really considered this before’. And so it took a little while. And in the end we settled on some glasses. And thanks to photoshop, I think I might look something like this:

The lady said I don’t have to wear them all the time: just when I’m on the computer, reading, or dealing with close up things. So… pretty much all the time in my world? She also said if I don’t wear them I will become short sighted and have to wear glasses anyway so I might as well wear these ones now and not become short sighted. Sounds fairly logical to me.
Jarod is particularly pleased, because he thinks I look rather nice with glasses. I suggested if he liked it so much that he could pay the $500(!!) for me. Why did no one tell me glasses were so expensive? The majority of that cost is the lenses themselves, and I only got the cheap plastic ones.
Luckily I’ve still got my NIB health cover, and according to their little chart I just might get around $200 back. Perhaps in time for Christmas.
Specifically, the one of Steve Jobs holding up an iPhone at his keynote.

I’m quite surprised they didn’t get any of Balakov’s work on there, as its always been the benchmark for LEGO recreations of photos.
Anyway, it’s a nice feature. I said all the right things, he quoted me on all the right things. It’s just a shame I got called an ‘Apple enthusiast’ ;-)
So I picked up my new bike from TBSM on Tuesday night. It’s a 2010 Kona Unit. Single speed. 29er. Sexy.
After leaving it stock and riding it for a 20km spin around Loftus last night, I have much to talk about. There are a few upgrades that I want to do, with just about all of them making the bike more rideable/comfortable. So while I collect my thoughts on the initial impressions of the bike, enjoy some 29er bike porn…

and of course…

So after switching back to drop bars on the Salsa a few months ago, I’ve been enjoying the various different hand positions that can be used. Something I hadn’t been taking any pleasure in was the standard bar tape that came with the bike; it was paper thin and as cushioning as a slab of granite.
So in the same CRC order as Whitey’s New Boots, I grabbed an impulsive 10 Australian dollars worth of Easton Road Bar Tape in yellow. When it arrived in the post, I took a fleeting look at it and then promptly discarded it to ogle the wheel set that arrived in the same order.
The Fling and enjoying Whitey’s new gears were a good enough distraction from riding the Casseroll and as such the bar tape only got installed over the weekend. I sat myself down during the 35° heat and let my OCD nature go to work. The time was obviously well spent, as they’re by far the best set of bars I’ve ever wrapped tape on.

Turns out the colour is a bit lighter and brighter than the frame, but oh well… my grubby hands will dull them soon enough.
Since Liz typed out this blog post, we’ve been avid Adam Spencer on ABC 702 listeners. When he went on holidays, it was with great pain that we’d switch back to Triple J. Due to similar holiday schedules, we’d normally end up with Gaby Brown, as thus didn’t have to listen to the holidaying Robbie, Marieke and the Doctor talk over the top of each other.
However, in 9 days time Triple J are farewelling Robbie, Marieke and the Doctor, announcing today that Tom and Alex will be filling their shoes in 2010. The two young’uns have been going exceptionally well in weekend breakfast timeslot and I certainly enjoy listening to their antics when heading to or from bike rides.
Anyway, all I’m saying is that I’m happy for Tom and Alex, and that it’s going to be a difficult decision whether to stick with Adam Spencer or jump ship to the new kids.
Oh, and it’s old news now, but Robbie Buck is heading to ABC 702 Sydney. Hurray for Robbie!
Yay, Marrickville Council! It’d be nice if it could run longer than a couple of weeks though.
A desexed cat is a happier, healthier, safer cat. And microchipping gives cat owners peace of mind.
Marrickville Council is encouraging cat owners to get their feline friend desexed and microchipped between 16 – 27 November 2009 as part of Operation Cat.
As part of Operation Cat, the Cat Protection Society’s Cat Protection Welfare Officer will pick up Marrickville residents’ cats and kittens, transport them to a vet, get them desexed and/or microchipped and bring them home the next day.
The cost to the owner is:
- Female cat desexing $80
- Female cat desexing and microchip $90
- Male cat desexing $70
- Male cat desexing and microchip $80Operation Cat aims to make looking after cats easier and more affordable for seniors, who may have mobility issues, and for those who need financial assistance.
Bookings for this service are essential. For more information or to book phone the Cat Protection Society on 9519 7201.
Our kitty finds the best places to cool down in 40 degree heat. And no, the heater isn’t on silly.
I’ll tell you any of these will do…

I am not associated with the Cat Protection Society except for that I like them. The above design is not one of theirs, I just got bored.
