4/365 – Commuting By Bike to Work
Posted by: Jarod at 7:27 pm, January 4th, 2010
I want to focus on my bike riding in 2010. In general to increase my fitness and stamina, but also just cause I’m enjoying being on the bike. As a result of this I’ll be riding the Casseroll to and from work a bunch more.
It’s a simple equation really. I can drive to work and it’ll take me between 30-40 minutes. But if I jump on the bike, I can do the same stretch in 45-55 minutes. I’d be crazy not to ride to work more often.
Speaking of which, this is me on the way home from work today.

I took the long way home (46kms) instead of the more direct (20km) route. Sadly this meant riding into a massive headwind. But as a plus, it’s aaaallllllll extra training.

Nice move :) 46km / day + full time job is a tad excessive i think. Personally the smaller distance @ slow pace with a flat out pace once a week and then a long slow ride on the weekend is more than enough.
Another tip is to work out a training plan and stick to it.

It was actually 66kms today (20 there, 46 back). But the plan isn’t to do that every day. It’ll only be twice, maybe thrice a week when my body’s used to it.
Add to that a few decent sized mountain bike rides on Saturday/Sunday and I should be ready for Rotovegas in no time! :D

Yeah maybe. We’ll have to see how we’re both going for annual leave around then. At the moment it’s looking fairly grim.
It’d certainly be quite the spectacle!!

Dude…46(66)km! Nice work. You should think about some skinnier tires if you start clocking up that range more often.

Yah. I wouldn’t mind a skinnier set of tyres.
Problem is that I’m waiting for my current Continental Contacts to wear out, but they just keep lasting and lasting!

Haha. I’m not a fan of skids, be they fixie or otherwise.
It all just seems counter intuitive.

I’ve been riding to work since April when I gave up my car lease and have been without a car. It is only 10km each way for me. So good luck with the riding and I will keep an eye open for you. I think we cross paths somewhere along the way as I ride from Marrickville to Paddington.
