Casseroll Upgrades

Wowzers. With all this wedding stuff there hasn’t been much bike talk on my side of late. Lets fix that shall we?
When we last left the Casseroll, it had just been given gears. Those gears were working well, with the exception that I was constantly using the large cogs in the rear. That meant the chain line was always a little bit too angled and as such the drive train made too much noise. What’s the solution? Grab myself a smaller chain ring which would allow me to use the smaller cogs in the cassette more.

Voila! But wait, it doesn’t look quite right, no?

That’s cause it’s a 42T Shimano Biopace chain ring. The idea is that the non round tooth pattern is meant to eliminate the dead spot at the top and bottom of the pedal stroke. Whether it works or not (or whether I’ll notice any difference or not) is anyone’s guess. Truth be told I only bought it cause it was cheap on eBay and had the PCD/number of teeth I required. Buy buy buy!
Next up are some sexy cages. The back story is that I own four or five black water bottle cages and one silver one. All the black ones look stupid on the Salsa, so I was always having the one silver one and adding a black one when I really needed it on longer rides. Tis all changed now though!

Salsa Water Bottle Cages from the Dirtworks sale. Two of them. A matching set. Now they can stay on there 24/7 and I don’t need to switch them out. Awesome.
All that’s needed is for me to take the Salsa for a test ride to ensure the biopace chainring isn’t obscenely weird. Unfortunately that won’t be happening any time soon cause I’m still sick. Oh well. All the more afternoon naps for me!

I’ll say. The only reason I’m giving the biopace a go is cause it was at the right price.
300 bucks for a set of q-rings is just silly!

Sick dude! We need to go ride.
I’ve always wanted to try a q style ring interesting to see how it goes.
