Whitey Gets His Gears Back

Sick of sore knees and having to set up the gearing for each trail I visited, I splurged and bought Whitey some new running gear. The vertical drop outs meant the single speed thing never did work quite right. Oh well, I might try single speeding again at some point in the future**.

The Tale of the Giant Iguana Single Speed and the Salsa Casseroll Single Speed Commuter

Okay. Not so much a tale as a photo of each bike in it’s respective state.

That’s pretty much how Whitey will stay for the Highland Fling this weekend. Kinda not really especially looking forward to it. Which is to say that I’m nervous and wish it was over with already.

Whitey’s New Boots

I recently treated whitey to a new set of boots… and in the process saved almost a kilo of weight. Crazy!
These were replaced:

With these:

Hubs are these:

Rims are these:

And they’re laced together with super light DT Swiss Revolution spokes and held in with super sexy red DT Swiss Alloy Nipples.

Giant Iguana Single Speed (Whitey!)

Yep, more buildingness has taken place. And the new frame has a name… Whitey!

Going to keep rebuilding it as it was for Dirtworks. But wheelset, crankset, brakes, seatpost & saddle are all on the table for upgrades during Winter.

The All New Old Giant Iguana

Okay. With the demise of my Giant Iguana frame, I’ve been looking on eBay for a cheap xtc or similar frame. Nothing came up until I found what was hilariously the perfect bike for me.
It’s a …
*pause for dramatic effect*
… 17″ 2003 Giant Iguana frame. The exact same model and size as(click to read the full post)

The Giant Iguana Single Speed Frame

Just a small update on my Giant Iguana Single Speed. It’s all broked.
Basically, a few weeks before Dirtworks, the bottom bracket started making a clicking sound. Turns out that was one side of the bottom bracket shell had enlarged, so the thread wasn’t threading in. This can pretty much be attributed to me running the(click to read the full post)

Oh yes, a Dirtworks Wrapup!

Well, the short version is that on Sunday I had an absolute blast. The long version follows. (and be warned, it really a long one!)
Woke up on Sunday morning at 4am. Showered, ate, got bike gear together. Liz and I were in the car driving to the start line by 5:30am. (click to read the full post)

Harley, you should be proud…

… I’ve gone the way of an egotistical fashion loving monkey. Monkey?

Yes, my singlespeed has a red chain now. And yes, I love it.
The chain keeps slipping on the back cog when I put stacks of power through the cranks. So I’m going to find myself a 3/32 half link and go(click to read the full post)

Rear brakes and rides through the City on foggy mornings

Did I mention that I chucked the rear brakes on the Single Speed? Thought so. Well I did.
Even took it out for a 20km cruise into the city & toward the Opera House yesterday. Was quite foggy… so I photographed the said fog!

The Paint that wouldn’t stick.

The paint didn’t take to the single speed frame. Sucks.
