206/365 – Newtown, Waterfall, Cronulla, Kurnell, Newtown.

Today I rode from Newtown to Waterfall, then came home via Cronulla and Kurnell. The morning started much like this…

Don’t you ever complain about the noise in your dSLR til you’ve used an Nokia e71 in low light. Anyway, I was on the bike by 5:30am, which meant I’d be riding the first(click to read the full post)

80kms of ouch.

Yesterday I went for a road ride with a few BMU guys. As previously detailed, I’ve been struggling to find my legs after the wedding & general winter laziness. The route was the same as the KoM one a while back; Hell on Wheels, Sutherland, Cronulla, Kurnell, Hell on Wheels. And while(click to read the full post)

Salsa Casseroll with Bullhorns

As of yesterday, the Salsa is now sporting trendy bullhorns. They were bought second hand with the bar tape, brake levers, brake cables and stem attached; hooray for lazy upgrades! A quick bolt up of the stem and threading of cables and the transformation was complete.

I headed out for a quick spin and(click to read the full post)

Brand-X Hollow Allen Key Skewer Set Review

A few months back I bought myself a set of Brand-X Hollow Allen Key Skewers. The short version of this review is that half worked well for me, the other half, not so much.

First, lets start off with why the skewers were bought. It came about due to me reading various sites on(click to read the full post)

Casseroll Upgrades

Wowzers. With all this wedding stuff there hasn’t been much bike talk on my side of late. Lets fix that shall we?
When we last left the Casseroll, it had just been given gears. Those gears were working well, with the exception that I was constantly using the large cogs in the rear.(click to read the full post)

133/365 – Bike bike bike bike

Okay. So technically this photo isn’t of me, but it is of my good friend Jarod’s Shadow. I go everywhere with him. Unless it’s dark.

Salsa Casseroll Single with Gears

Well, it’s all done (for now). My Salsa Casseroll Single has gears. Since it’s been built up I’ve done almost 150kms and the set up is proving to be good.

The 48T chain ring will likely get swapped out for something a little smaller as I’m finding myself mostly in the high(click to read the full post)

The Salsa’s Getting Gears

It’s all still in the works, but parts I ordered for the Salsa’s new 1×9 drive train have started to arrive. The (dura ace!!) down tube shifters have most certainly arrived… and have been bolted on… and look like pure bike porn.

In my defence, they are the only model of Shimano 9 speed down(click to read the full post)

I’ve been thinking about putting gears on the Casseroll.

Excuse the Photoshop disaster. It’s up there to illustrate a point, not to win a prize.
It’s something I’ve considered for a while now, but yesterday’s ride certainly brought it back to the front of my brain. It is in short, it’s a hair brained idea to run a 1×9/1×10 geared setup on my(click to read the full post)

Redfern. Waterfall. Redfern. Singlespeed.

I’ll admit it. I’m damn proud of what I achieved today. It was a ride where Tim and I were meeting at Redfern, then simply heading south. In my head, I was happy to turn around at Loftus, or possible Heathcote. In Tim’s head, we were never falling short of Waterfall.

95/365 – Different Mornings

Taken within a half hour of each other, these two photos illustrate how Liz and I enjoy a lazy public holiday Monday in our own special way.
Sleepy cuddles with Train in bed.

The beginnings of a 75km bike ride.

73/365 – Arm Tan Man

With the increased riding that I’ve been doing, I’ve been developing a bit of a strange arm tan.

Speaking of riding, today I rode the Salsa to Heathcote with Andy, Matt and a dozen other Fixie Riders. They were all heading out to Garie Beach in the Royal National Park so I tagged along til(click to read the full post)

26/365 – 52kms of Centennial Parks Finest

I really really really shouldn’t have, but this morning I rode 52kms of Centennial Park. Why shouldn’t I have? Well, now I’m feeling extremely tired, have a sore throat and generally feel eww.

Classic over training I guess. Oops.

4/365 – Commuting By Bike to Work

I want to focus on my bike riding in 2010. In general to increase my fitness and stamina, but also just cause I’m enjoying being on the bike. As a result of this I’ll be riding the Casseroll to and from work a bunch more.
It’s a simple equation really. I can drive(click to read the full post)

The Tale of the Giant Iguana Single Speed and the Salsa Casseroll Single Speed Commuter

Okay. Not so much a tale as a photo of each bike in it’s respective state.

That’s pretty much how Whitey will stay for the Highland Fling this weekend. Kinda not really especially looking forward to it. Which is to say that I’m nervous and wish it was over with already.
